Umalore is written from Osaka by residents who spend their weekends at the rails of Hanshin and Kyoto. We came to Japanese racing the way many people do now — through the characters — and then discovered that the real thing is even better, and that almost none of it was explained in English.
So we started writing it down: how race day actually works, how to read the odds board, which gate to use at Hanshin, where the retired champions live now. Everything on this site is first-hand — visited, checked, and kept current.
Umalore is independent. We are not affiliated with the JRA, and nothing here is betting advice — we explain how the system works so you can enjoy it with your own eyes open.
